History and Nature by Bike

The Voie Verte en Pyrénées Cathares, a 38 km trail, offers a unique 2h15 cycling experience, starting in Mirepoix, near the campsite. This cycle path passes through a historic landscape, marked by Cathar sites such as the Château de Montségur and the town of Foix. A former Lavelanet-Mirepoix railway line, used to transport passengers and goods, notably textiles, this greenway offers an immersion in history and nature. Ideal for cyclists of all levels, it combines cultural discovery and cycling pleasure in an exceptional natural setting.

  • Trail length: 38 kms
  • Duration of bike ride: 2h15
  • Departure : Mirepoix, 15 mn by car and 33 mn by bike from the campsite

This greenway is located at the foot of the Pyrenees, straddling the Ariege and Aude departments.

Just a stone’s throw from the starting point, you’ll discover emblematic sites of Cathar resistance to persecution in the Middle Ages: Montségur castle, the citadel of Foix and Roquefixade castle.

Once on the greenway, another discovery awaits you: the path taken by trains in the last century. The trail runs along the old Lavelanet-Mirepoix railway line, which was used to transport passengers, mail and goods between 1903 and 1971.

Because one of these commodities was textiles, the route is also known as “le chemin des filatiers”.
